Marta Illescas de la Torre

Marta was born in Linares and discovered her passion for singing at the Professional Music Conservatory of Jaén, where she recieved the Professional Certificate in Singing having studied with María del Consuelo Santa Bárbara de Sicilia. She continued her training at the Royal Conservatory of Music "Victoria Eugenia" in Granada, with the teachers Ana Huete and María del Mar Carrillo, where she graduated with top marks. She specialized in the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt in Weimar, Germany, where she was taught by Venceslava Hruba-Freiberger, Gunter Kahler, Christoph Ritter, among others, obtaining great recognition. She is an Infants School teacher having obtained her qualifications at the University of Jaén. Marta also has extensive complementary training in the field of pedagogy.

She has sung with various vocal and chamber groups around Spain, in the choir and as a soloist. The most outstanding of these are the Saint Cecilia Choir of Jaén, with which she has performed in many concerts and notable events such as the live recording of a CD of Requiem Op. 84 by Gabriel Fauré, The Choir of the Royal Economic Society of Friends of the Country, with which Marta sang the solo in Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana and the Provincial Orchestra of Malaga directed by Ángel Luís Pérez Garrido in Mozart’s Coronation Mass which was well greated by both the public and the critics. Marta was the soloist with the Provincial Choir and Orchestra of Jaén in the Tribute Concert dedicated to Antón García Abril in 2014, under the direction of Antonio Ariza Momblant.

She has also participated in the lyrical-theatrical projects "El baúl de Papagena" and "Una Berbena y la Rubia" premiered at the "Isabel la Católica" Theater in Granada and in the Opera "Dido and Aeneas" with the Orfeón and the orquestra of that city. She is part of the ensemble of ancient music "Sursum Corda", selected for the International Festival of Music and Dance of Granada in its 2008 edition, and the Zarambeques Ensemble which took part in the 14th Festival of Ancient Music in Úbeda and Baeza in 2010. She was the soloist in both the premiere and the tour of the zarzuela "The Curse of the Corregidor" by the Jaen composors Antero Jimenez and Antonio Armenteros (2011-13).

She was a finalist at the 6th International Singing Contest of Colmenar Viejo, Madrid in 2011.

She has been on several vocal improvement courses. Her interest in discovering new vocal resources inspires her to collaborate with different instrumental formations, entering the contemporary repertoire of composers such as Alban Berg, François Rossè, Luciano Berio, George Crumb, Heinz Holliger, Olivier Messiaen, among others. Marta currently gives private singing tuition.
